Ever Wonder What Do The Signs On Your Mobile Battery Mean?
Mobile manufacturers provide their customers with instructions that are indicated by various symbols made on the mobile battery. Following these instructions, not only can we lengthen the age of our battery but save our environment from possible harm caused by our ignorance of proper handling of an energy source. It is thus essential to recognize the meaning these signs convey.
Among the six to seven signs generally present on a battery internationally, “CE” is the most prominent. CE stands for Conformité Européenne, which is French for “European Conformity”. To standardize electronics, a set of rules has been designed by European Union. This symbol is the declaration that the product has qualified the test that legalizes its marketing within EU and meets requirements of the applicable EU directives.
The “PCT” logo displays that the product is in conformance with the GOST-R standards. GOST-R refers to a set of technical standards maintained by the Euro-Asian Council for Standardization, Metrology and Certification (EASC), while the UL sign tells that the battery has been tested to be sold in the US. However, this sign holds no legal status. The FCC symbol indicates that the battery is approved by Federal Communications Commission (FCC), an independent United States government agency.
The “Waste Bin” sign on the battery symbolizes that the battery should not be thrown away as normal trash. Instead WEEE (Waste of Electrical and Electronic Equipment) directive should be followed, according to which, the customers must return the used battery free of charge for proper recycling. Since improper disposal of the battery, because of their hazardous content, can cause serious health problems and environmental harm. The battery can be reused to produce various appliances including new batteries.
The mobile battery is designed to match the particular needs of the gadget and is for indoor use only and not for industrial or experimental purpose. This is shown by the “House “ symbol, while the “Double Square” sign tells that the battery is doubly insulated.
Other symbols include the “Fuse”, which means that the power supply is protected by a fuse, the signs for “outer negative plug” and “center positive plug” and the “V” referring to average efficiency requirement.
Through a better understanding of these signs, we can minimize the injurious effects and maximize the positive usage of electronics. While latest technology blesses us with uncountable facilities, making life luxurious and connecting us with the entire globe in a magically convenient manner, it is our duty to play our part, which is to be responsible in our handling of the products and not ignoring our own wellbeing and that of our planet.
