North American Indians are perhaps one of the most fascinating part of native American and world history.

Edward Sheriff Curtis spent over 20 years taking 40,000 photographs of the various native tribes funded by a wealthy financier J.P.Morgan.

Here are some photos from his 20-volume series called ‘The North American Indian’:

1. It is believed that Curtis sometimes over-dramatized his photos and subjects.

2. These were the chiefs of the Sioux tribes.

3. A woman with her child of the Apsaroke tribe from 1908.

4. You will be surprised to read this, but this is Hakalahl, a chief of Nakoaktok tribe.
