What Causes Milk Spots?

There is no medical explanation yet as to what causes them but some doctors link it to the fact that young babies have undeveloped skin glands, which means dead skin gets trapped in little pockets, causing a small cyst.

Although in adult cases, it has been linked to skin damage caused by burns, blisters, a poison ivy or allergic rash, and too much exposure to the sun, as well as the use of harsh steroid creams and laser treatments.

They can be self-diagnosed by checking for white bumps that mainly appear either on your cheeks, around the nose or on a forehead. Although there isn’t any limit to how much longer they can stay, you can still get rid of them through a number of natural remedies involving ingredients which are probably already available in your kitchen!

Remedies To Banish White Spots

Here are some of the many remedies you can quickly apply to get rid of this unwelcomed ‘baby-acne’.

1.Steaming Your Face– This is the easiest way to eliminate practically all impurities from your skin because the steam really opens up pores, allowing them to release whatever it is that may be trapped in them. To do this, you’ll need a small towel soaked in moderate to hot water, squeeze it up and let it set on your face, especially the area with milk spots and let it cool off completely. Repeat this process for over a week and you’ll see the bumps disappearing in no time.

2.Honey– Take raw honey and gently spread it on your face. Allow it to stay on for 15 minutes or till it dries before rinsing off. Repeat this daily until you see improvement.

  1. Oatmeal Scrub- You can easily find these in supermarkets but you can also make one of your own at home. Mix granulated sugar, honey and 3 tbsp of oatmeal until a thick paste is formed. Set on the affected area. Rinse and repeat every day to beat milk spots.

  1. Cornstarch and Apple Cider Vinegar– These two are a perfect combination to get rid of milia. Cornstarch absorbs excess oils on the skin and apple cider vinegar gets into pores and cleans your face like actual magic. Mix well together to form a paste and apply on face for 25 minutes. (Warning: too much apple cider can cause skin irritation if not used properly or in a balanced amount!)

 

  1. Toothpaste– We are pretty sure you have this one at home! Toothpaste contains fluoride, which helps remove the symptoms associated with milia. Rub a dab of toothpaste on the milk spots and let it sit for 25 minutes. This might burn slightly, but this is natural and totally worth it!

  1. Tomatoes– You can slice them up in half and rub them on the affected area or you can make a paste and rub it all over. Not only will they help in making your milk spots disappear, they are known to deeply exfoliate your skin giving them a beautiful glow!
